Thanks for checking in on what’s new at the Hamilton Centre. Here’s a snapshot of what our team has been working on:
Living with ADHD can significantly affect people’s ability to work, maintain relationships and function day to day, and it’s important to recognise the overlap between ADHD and substance use disorders, plus the complexity this brings to diagnosis and treatment pathways. The Hamilton Centre’s latest research brief explores these challenges, including considerations around stimulant prescribing, and provides practical guidance for clinicians.
Thank you to Orygen for their valuable input and review of this work. You can access the full brief here.
It was encouraging to see strong engagement at our first workshop on culturally safe practices for Aboriginal Peoples, delivered by Clarisse Slater, a Yorta Yorta, Kamilaroi and Wiradjuri professional with over 20 years’ experience in the Aboriginal service sector. Participants highlighted the session as ‘well facilitated, engaging and highly relatable to their work’. The next session will be held online on 21 May, and we hope you can join us.
Also developed in partnership with Clarisse, Module 8 of our online training program is now live, focusing on supporting services to deliver culturally responsive care for Aboriginal communities. This self-paced module is designed to fit into busy schedules – enrolments are now open.
We’re also pleased to be delivering our opioid pharmacotherapy workshop in Ballarat on 7 May, with places still available for regional workers.
I’m also looking forward to the RANZCP Congress from 3–7 May. This year’s theme, “Reform and renewal towards healing, equity and trust,” reflects many of the priorities we’re seeing across the sector in Victoria. The binational conference for the peak body for psychiatry will see over 2,000 delegates from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond attending our Congress in Melbourne.
I’m proud to be part of this year’s event as Scientific Program Chair, and grateful to the Scientific Program Committee for their work in delivering an extensive program across four days and multiple concurrent streams. You can learn more about the Congress here.
As always, if you’d like to connect about any of these updates or explore how we can support your team, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
