Please note: This is a companion module to Module 3: Opioid pharmacotherapy. We recommend that learners complete both of these modules.
This module has six lessons addressing the following learning objectives:
Understand the principles of opioid harm reduction.
Recognise the signs of opioid overdose.
Understand how to respond to opioid overdose, including the importance of take-home naloxone (THN) programs in harm reduction and overdose prevention.
Understand the role of HRPWs in minimising harm associated with opioid use.
Recognise a range of broad harm reduction interventions.
Understand some of the stigma associated with opioid harm reduction and how people who use opioids may experience discrimination.
Definitions and terminology relating to harm reduction are explained throughout the module.
Reflective practice questions are offered at the end of the module. This section is designed to be worked through individually or in a team or peer environment.
